Parallel exercises reveal deepening military preparedness and strategic signaling between South Asia’s nuclear neighbours.

On 1 November 2025 the Hydrographer of Pakistan issued NAVAREA IX 514/25, a navigational warning that Pakistan naval ships would conduct live surface and sub-surface firing in the northern Arabian Sea from 2 November to 5 November 2025. The NAVAREA gives precise UTC timings and bounding coordinates and instructs mariners to stay clear. The advisory, designated NAVAREA IX 514/25, was released on November 1 and cautions all mariners to “keep well clear of the exercise area.”

India launched a large tri-services exercise called “Trishul” in late October/early November 2025, with maritime activity in the Gujarat coast / northern Arabian Sea and land / air activity across Rajasthan and Gujarat. The exercise is a major, multi-domain tri-service validation and was scheduled to continue into mid-November. The coordinates published in the NAVAREA alert outline a polygon roughly 6,000 square kilometres in size, positioned off Pakistan’s southern coast near Karachi. The live-fire exercise is expected to include surface ships, submarines, and support assets, consistent with previous large-scale maritime training events by the Pakistan Navy.

Many Indian and Pakistani news outlets noted that Pakistan’s NAVAREA overlaps geographically with the operating area / airspace reservations for India’s Trishul exercise. Several analysts quoted in reports said simultaneous drills are not unusual and that coordination is expected to prevent incidents.

Trishul is regarded as India’s largest tri-service drill since the May 2025 confrontation - Operation Sindoor.

Strategic Significance

Security analysts view the back-to-back exercises as part of a continuing pattern of posture signalling in South Asia. Both nations are seeking to validate their joint warfare capabilities and demonstrate operational deterrence following heightened tensions earlier in 2025.

While no incidents have been reported, the proximity of these exercises reflects an evolving military environment where strategic communication, rapid mobilization, and interoperability are central to both countries’ doctrines.

Verified from primary source: the NAVAREA text (times, coordinates, wording) is taken directly from the Hydrographer of Pakistan’s published NAVAREA message.

Reported by multiple outlets: the existence, timing and broad scope of India’s Trishul exercise, and the media observation that the Pakistani NAVAREA overlaps the area used by Trishul. These are consistently reported by mainstream Indian outlets and aggregated maritime-warning services.
