Police have gone on a red alert especially when it comes to monitoring the social media platforms to limit the dissemination of propaganda and anti-national content in Kashmir.
This development followed after Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha confirmed the dissemination of narratives being circulated by terror outfits like Terrorist Resistance Front (TRF).
This has become a serious security threat, as there is a surge in narratives emerging from terror groups or their proxies or proxy social media handles.
Chairing a security review meeting in Srinagar, Kashmir, Inspector General of Police VK Birdi insisted on increasing the surveillance of social media platforms to counter the spread of misinformation, propaganda and anti-national content.
A district-wise security plan encompassing entire Kashmir was discussed in detail with key installations, sensitive areas and inter-agency coordination.
Birdi called for the reinforcing the intelligence networks and for effective deployment of response mechanisms for inputs.
“He directed officers to intensify area domination, conduct night patrolling in sensitive areas, and maintain strict surveillance on anti-national elements (ANEs),” the officer added.
The police officers further added “The deliberations also focused on critical issues, including actions under the NDPS Act, achieving zero terror recruitment, strengthening district-level security grids, property attachment proceedings against terror elements, and other strategic concerns”.

Various measures will be expected to follow, which would include intensifying anti-drug operations and increasing surveillance on offenders.
Importance of community outreach and rehabilitation will also be targeted as a part of a comprehensive anti-narcotics strategy.
On 29 September 2025, Divisional Commissioner (Div Com) Kashmir, Anshul Garg held an urgent meeting to address the alarming issue of drug addiction & substance use by youth in the Valley.
